About Crypto Rookie 101
Crypto Rookie 101 exists to make crypto less confusing, less intimidating and a lot more practical for everyday beginners.
If you have ever opened a crypto exchange, seen words like “staking”, “gas fees”, “cold wallet”, “copy trading”, “DEX”, “yield farming” or “leverage” and thought, “What on earth does any of this actually mean?” — you are exactly who this site is for.
Crypto Rookie 101 is built for people who want plain-English explanations, honest guides and practical walkthroughs without the hype, jargon or “get rich quick” nonsense that often surrounds crypto online.
Who runs Crypto Rookie 101?
Crypto Rookie 101 is run by Alan Spicer, a retail crypto trader, YouTube consultant and online content creator who has been involved in the crypto space since 2020.
Alan has contributed work alongside major crypto media and education brands including Coin Bureau and Crypto Banter, and is also part of the Trade Travel Chill trading community.
This site is not written from the point of view of someone pretending crypto is easy, risk-free or guaranteed. It is written by someone who has actually used exchanges, tested wallets, placed trades, made mistakes, learned from them and wants to help beginners understand the space before blindly clicking buttons.
Why this site exists
Crypto can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming.
There are coins, tokens, exchanges, wallets, blockchains, scams, fees, trading bots, staking products, tax questions, security risks and a never-ending stream of new buzzwords. For a beginner, it is very easy to feel like everyone else understands the game and you are the only one still trying to work out the basics.
Crypto Rookie 101 was created to fix that.
The goal is simple: to explain crypto in a way that normal people can actually understand.
That means clear beginner guides, step-by-step tutorials, honest reviews and practical explainers that focus on what something is, how it works, where the risks are and whether it is actually useful for a beginner.
What you will find here

Our approach
Crypto Rookie 101 is built around three simple rules.
1. Plain English first
Crypto is already complicated enough. The aim here is not to impress you with technical language. The aim is to help you understand what something means, why it matters and what to watch out for.
2. Honest about risk
Crypto is risky. Prices move fast, platforms can fail, scams are common and many products are more complicated than they first appear. If something has a downside, this site will try to explain it clearly rather than bury it in tiny print.
3. Practical, not theoretical
Where possible, guides are written from a hands-on point of view. The focus is on what a beginner actually sees, clicks, uses and needs to understand when dealing with crypto in the real world.
Is this financial advice?
No. Nothing on Crypto Rookie 101 is financial advice.
The content on this site is for education and information only. It is designed to help you understand crypto products, platforms, tools and terminology so you can make more informed decisions for yourself.
Crypto can go down as well as up, and you should never invest money you cannot afford to lose. Always do your own research and consider speaking to a qualified financial adviser if you are unsure about your personal situation.
How Crypto Rookie 101 makes money
Some pages on Crypto Rookie 101 may include affiliate links or referral links. This means the site may earn a commission if you click a link, sign up for a service or make a purchase through one of those links.
This does not cost you extra, and it helps support the work that goes into researching, writing and maintaining the site.
Affiliate relationships do not remove the need for honest opinions. If a product, exchange, wallet or platform has risks, drawbacks or beginner traps, those should still be clearly explained.
